5 steps to hosting the perfect BBQ

Summer is all about enjoying the warm weather, making memories and spending time with loved ones. What better way to do all of these things than by bringing everyone together and hosting the perfect barbecue.  Check out our top tips to help you host the ultimate summer soiree that your friends will talk about for years to come…

1) Decide on food/drink well in advance

Aside from the cliché barbecue foods such as sausages, burgers, hot dogs and chicken drumsticks, you should also be aware of any allergies or dietary requirements. For example, if vegetarians and vegans will be present, you will want to serve more vegetable dishes. How about some red pepper and halloumi kebabs – quick, easy and absolutely delicious!

2) Number crunching

Avoid any nasty surprises by making sure you organise your guest list properly. This is important as it will inform the amount of food and drink you need to buy and how many chairs you require!

3) Select your tools

If you are planning to use a charcoal barbecue, make sure to leave your coal in a cool, dry place on the eve of the barbecue. Incorrectly stored coal could result in disappointment and embarrassment when it is not fit for use.

If you are using a gas barbecue, make sure your propane gas cylinders are never stored inside as it can be a danger hazard. Instead, store them outside on a cool, flat surface.

You will also want to ensure that your barbecue has a waterproof cover to prevent rusting if it rains.

4) Preparation is key

To minimise stress on the day of the event, marinate all your meats, prepare your side dishes and chop all vegetables the night before. You won’t regret this when you’re super busy on the day of the barbecue! Plus, this gives you more time to enjoy a summer cocktail and socialise with your guests – it’s a win-win situation!

5) Provide entertainment

Get the party started with a summery playlist to complement the mood and entertain your guests.

If children are present, it might be a good idea to incorporate family-friendly activities like giant board games which will entertain young and old alike. Anyone for a game of ‘Four-in-a-row’?
