It’s the most wonderful time of the year…until you realise how much it’s going to cost to decorate your house! It’s easy to get carried away with wanting to make your home look super festive with all the latest and most expensive Christmas decorations but did you know that you can easily make your own and save yourself a pretty penny in doing so. Here’s how…
These are colourful and fun to make especially with the little ones. Not much assembly is required either, all you need is a selection of coloured card/paper and some glitter/coloured pens to add that Christmassy feel to your home. Wrap them around the bannister, put them over your fireplace, and even add them to your tree!
We may not be destined for a white Christmas but that doesn’t mean you can’t create your own snowy wonderland in the comfort of your own home. To make your own snowflakes, simply fold a piece of paper a few times and cut a creative pattern into it, then watch it unfold. You could even have a go at cutting patterns that resemble your favourite Disney character if you happen to be feeling particularly artsy.
These can cost a pretty penny when bought but making your own isn’t as hard as it looks and can often look better. Forage for branches to create the base of your wreath and then decorate with berries and pieces of dried fruit (oranges and lemons work best) to really give it that festive feel. Bring it all together with a sprinkle of glitter and Christmassy bow before hanging on your front door for all the neighbours to see.
Knit your own stockings
This may sound complex but all you really need is a pattern, a ball of wool and a pair of needles. Haven’t you heard, knitting is all the rage these days, not just something your gran does! Perfect for adding that personal touch this Christmas, a hand-knitted stocking will provide plenty of memories and will last you many years.
