Cuban Fever – bring Havana to your home

Stunning beaches, amazing weather, fascinating history and wonderful people – it’s no wonder that Cuba is the holiday destination that everybody is talking about. It should therefore come as no surprise that 2017 summer home decor has a Caribbean vibe. Have a read of our top tips on how you can incorporate a little bit of Havana into your home – now who’s for some Mojito’s?

Cuban Brights

Bright and bold, Cuban’s décor has a creative license that embraces a colourful theme – think strong yellows, greens, reds and blues, as well as contrasting patterns and textiles. We love Striking Cyan Blue by Dulux for a stunning feature wall, reminiscent of Cuba’s glorious crystal clear sea.

And when it comes to matching, don’t worry about your colours clashing as Cuban décor is not renowned for its “perfect” execution. Incorporate gold or brass accessories, bright orange throws and cushions as well as crisp white furniture to complete the look.

Geometric Tiles

Cuban cement tiling is a traditional look that dates far back into the 19th century. A mix of elaborate designs and bright colours, these beautiful tiles would look stunning in any part of your home. Complement with exposed wooden beams and mid-century modern furniture for a truly authentic feel.

Mid-Century Furniture

Speaking of vintage furniture, Cuban design gives you the perfect opportunity to release your inner history buff. Vintage interior shopping can result in beautiful home décor harking back to the 1940s/50s. However, if antique hunting isn’t your forte, why not head to Etsy, a treasure trove of old-school designs.

Tropical Greenery

When we think of the Caribbean we instantly think of leafy bright green palm trees swaying in the breeze. And you don’t need to buy a plane ticket to get your hands on some – simply pop down to Homebase which has a variety of luscious potted palms that will brighten up any home.

And for those who aren’t in the habit of looking after their house plants, why not invest in some palm leaf wallpaper, achieving the look without the daily maintenance! We particularly love this Honolulu Palm Green Foliage wallpaper by Graham & Brown, Julien Macdonald.
