Its official, autumn is on our doorstep so we’re back to darker mornings, colder weather and definitely less motivation to hit the gym! Although your evenings may now be spent hugging a hot water bottle with your cosy socks and cup of tea to hand, it doesn’t mean you can’t get creative with some cosy autumn inspired nights in your new home.
Can you ever go wrong with a date night with Leonardo DiCaprio or with a festive Frozen-inspired affair? Whatever your genre, why not get creative with your very own movie den – begin by digging out those spare sheets, scarves and throws you have squirrelled away around the house and get building. Adding some fairy lights or lamps can be a great away to create that cosy snug vibe on those bitter autumn evenings. Whether it’s a romantic snuggle or a playful adventure with the kids, get imaginative and create your very own home cinema!
A cold autumn evening wouldn’t be complete without some tasty treats, and instead of buying yours from the shop, why not try your hand at making some yourself! Popcorn is one of the most fashionable snacks of the moment and although it may seem complex with all the different flavours on offer, it is actually a doddle to make. From sugar and cinnamon to salt and pepper, use whatever you may have in the cupboards to create something seriously tasty to enjoy curled up on the sofa with a book, sitting around the fireplace catching up with friends or snuggled up in front of your favourite film.
Come dine with me
After buying and furnishing/decorating your new home, a dinner party may be the last thing on your mind but they needn’t be extravagant affairs, good friends teamed with good food is all it takes to make the perfect dining experience. Why not get a few friends together and create your very own come dine with me. Think wholesome, comforting food that needn’t take hours of preparation or cost too much. When it comes to table décor, banish the kids/husband/boyfriend to the garden to search for pine cones, branches, dried leaves – basically anything that will look beautiful once sprayed in glitter! Simple, festive table decorations can be a great way to spruce up your dinner party, adding a touch of glam without breaking the bank.
Creating the perfect cosy environment in your new home is essential once the weather begins to get chillier. When it comes to lighting, it’s all about the shadows which is why using lamps and candles to light up your home is the way to go. Simple candles can be given a new lease of life by being displayed in glasses and don’t be afraid to jazz up old lampshades with ribbons, buttons or lace from your nearest craft shop.
Autumn doesn’t have to be all doom and gloom, why not embrace the coming season, and get creative with friends and family, after all staying in is definitely the new going out!
